Winter Olympics Report 14: Cortina's Downhill Slide

As the Winter Olympics comes to a close, the town of Cortina seems to be enjoying the fanfare of the games.

However town councillor Roberta De Zanna tells a very different story. The building work in Cortina has had huge environmental impacts, with the controversial building of a new bobsleigh track resulting in large scale deforestation. And the game’s polluting sponsors are adding fuel to an already raging fire.

If the environmental costs weren’t enough, a derelict ski jump, unfinished cable cars and more shows the risk of Cortina becoming a graveyard of winter sport infrastructure - with the local community left behind.
