Winter Olympics Introduction Report - Matt Rendell covering the Olympic and climate frontlines
The 2026 Winter Olympics start tomorrow, at a time when pollution-fuelled global heating is putting the whole of winter sport in crisis.
Back in 2019, Milan’s bid for the Games promised the most sustainable ever, despite being an advertising vehicle for problematic sponsors like Italy’s biggest greenhouse gas emitter, the oil company ENI.
Matt Rendell will be reporting from Italy for the New Weather Institute and the Cool Down Network.
He’ll be producing regular reports on the Games, the environment and the movement to kick fossil fuel advertising and sponsorship out of sport.
